Book excerpt: In a lucid and comprehensive study, Professor Viney presents an excellent critical analysis of Hartshorne’s thought about God. Demonstrating his thesis from many points of view (ontological, cosmological, teleological, moral, aesthetic, etc.), Viney deftly illustrates Hartshorne’s belief that any one argument for God is inconclusive, but that many woven together make up a convincing interpretative expression of the world.

This book was released on 2008-10-17 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of the brightest scientific minds of our time, from Albert Einstein to Stephen Hawking, have made incredible insights into the earliest origins of the universe, but have failed to ultimately discover why there is something rather than nothing—why we exist. In A Case for the Existence of God, Dean L. Overman examines the latest theories about the origins of the universe and explains why even the most sophisticated science can only take us so far. Ultimately we must make a leap of faith to understand the world, and Overman argues that a leap into theism provides the most satisfying conclusions. Overman explores fundamental questions about why our world exists and how it functions, using principles of logic, physics, and theology. In a time when religion and science are often portrayed as diametrically opposed, A Case for the Existence of God presents a refreshing view of the interplay between science and religion and makes a compelling case for the existence of God and his role in our world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written with the premise that we should refresh our views about existence of God because most of the beliefs on God had emerged during the period when people did not even know whether the sun revolves around the earth or the earth around the sun. They even believed that some demon may be devouring the sun during the solar eclipse and the moon during the lunar eclipse while today even a school going child knows that the sun and the moon appear to disappear only when either moon hides the view of sun or the shadow of earth falls on the moon. The book gives sufficient food to think, “God may not come down from the heavens to convince us whether He exists or not. So we have to find out ourselves only whether He exists or not.”

Book excerpt: An answer to a commonly asked question of our time A Philosophical Treatise on the Problem of Evil One of the rational causes of modern atheism is the difficulty of many in reconciling the goodness of God in His Providence and the existence of evil in the world. This book attempts to resolve this apparent contradiction based on classical philosophy of the scholastics. It is a low-key apologetical discussion of the problem of evil in relation to divine Providence, with a concluding Marian twist to this perenniel theme of all human reflection, so important not only philosophically, but above all spiritually.

This book was released on 2012-04-05 with total page 1288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dictionary of Early American Philosophers, which contains over 400 entries by nearly 300 authors, provides an account of philosophical thought in the United States and Canada between 1600 and 1860. The label of "philosopher" has been broadly applied in this Dictionary to intellectuals who have made philosophical contributions regardless of academic career or professional title. Most figures were not academic philosophers, as few such positions existed then, but they did work on philosophical issues and explored philosophical questions involved in such fields as pedagogy, rhetoric, the arts, history, politics, economics, sociology, psychology, medicine, anthropology, religion, metaphysics, and the natural sciences. Each entry begins with biographical and career information, and continues with a discussion of the subject's writings, teaching, and thought. A cross-referencing system refers the reader to other entries. The concluding bibliography lists significant publications by the subject, posthumous editions and collected works, and further reading about the subject.
